Director Boyapati says the inclusion is ‘okay’ because elections are over, while censor board member maintains it’s not

Looks like the makers of Balakrishna-starrer ‘Legend’ threw caution to the wind on occasion of the film’s successful run of 50 days on Friday. Releasing a new trailer on the occasion which also coincided with the win of Balakrishna from TDP’s hot seat, Hindupur, the makers have violated the censor board’s guidelines by the inclusion of dialogues that were ‘beeped’ before the film’s release.

The dialogues – “Simham nidra lechi gadapa dati janam loki ochi garjiste… aaa garjanaku me Dilli map shape e maripoindi” (When the sleeping lion woke up and walked into the crowds, it changed the very shape of your Delhi map) and “Pasupu peru chepte parupu tadupukone batch… meera ma charitrala guinchi comment chesedi? History repeat avuddi! (You folks who wet the bed at the very mention of yellow (hinting at TDP), are you the ones who dare to comment about us? History will repeat itself)” – which have an obvious political slant towards a particular party were beeped when the film released. But to the surprise of the censor officials, the makers on Friday included the same dialogues in a new trailer.

While one of the producers, Anil Sunkara, was unavailable for comment, director Boyapati Srinu says that it was done because the “elections are over”. He adds, “The only reason for the beeps was the concern of elections. So now that it’s over, we decided to go ahead with it. I don’t think that would be an issue.”

However, the latest development is a clear violation of rules, according to an ex-Censor Board member Vidyasagar. He claims, “Once the Censor Board has cleared a film, it is final. Neither is there another censor done nor can the filmmakers disobey the rules under any circumstances. In case they do, they are liable to be punished.”

He insists that action can be taken only if someone files a complaint. “Though it is a violation of the law, no punishment can be given without a complaint.”
